• Ceremonies:
- Ghost Dance:
The ghost dance is a ceremony for the regeneration of the earth, and, subsequently, the restoration of the earth’s caretakers to their former life of bliss.
- Pipe ceremony:
The pipe ceremony is a sacred ritual for connecting physical and spiritual worlds. "The pipe is a link between the earth and the sky, nothing is more sacred. The pipe is our prayers in physical form. Smoke becomes our words; it goes out, touches everything, and becomes a part of all there is. The fire in the pipe is the same fire in the sun, which is the source of life. The reason why tobacco is used to connect the worlds is that the plant’s roots go deep into the earth, and its smoke rises high into the heavens."
- - White Deer of Autumn.
- Vision Quest:
Young males and females before or at puberty are encouraged to enter into a period of fasting, meditation and physical challenge. They separate themselves from the tribe and go to a wilderness area. The goal is to receive a vision that will guide their development for the rest of his life. They also seek to acquire a guardian spirit who will be close and supportive for their lifetime.
Hunting ceremonies:
These involve the ritual treatment of a bear or other animal after its killing during a successful hunt. The goal is to appease its spirit and convince other animals to be willing to be killed in the future. Makoskanl pays it's respects and thanks to the animal's spirit, and the leader's eat it's heart and liver to realease it. One reason the werewolves dislike the wolves, is for the wolves kill and eat with ravenous thought, and no respect.
No parts of the kill are to go to waste. Whether it be hide for clothing, meat for meals, and bones and teeth of jewerly and tools, and organs to string a bow. Nothing is ever wasted.
